Environmental Law Case Success

News9th March 2018
  • South Wales Wood Recycling Limited, and its sole director Dennis Burke have just been through a week long trial at Cardiff Crown Court. They were prosecuted by Natural Resources Wales for alleged offences involving waste and a fire at the company’s Bridgend site in 2016. Both were represented by Adam Vaitilingam QC and Phil Williams of Blackfords solicitors.

  • All of the charges against Mr Burke, and three of the four charges against the company, were this week dismissed by the trial judge and verdicts of not guilty were recorded.
  • The trial judge, HHJ Crowther QC, was heavily critical of aspects of the prosecution brought by Natural Resources Wales, in particular the decision to charge the company director.
  • The company has expressed its thanks to its stakeholders and staff for their support during the last 18 months, and looks forward to a positive ongoing relationship with NRW in the future.
