Supporting Resolution: A Commitment to Constructive Family Law

As a long-standing member of Resolution, I am proud to support its mission and this year’s initiative, “The Year of the Code.” #Y0TC25. Resolution is a community of family justice professionals dedicated to helping families navigate the challenges of separation and divorce with dignity and respect. Since its founding in 1982, Resolution has championed a non-confrontational approach to family law, believing that constructive methods lead to better outcomes for separating families and their children. At the heart of Resolution’s work is its Code of Practice, which embodies the organisation’s commitment to promoting positive and collaborative solutions during difficult times.

My own journey in family law has been deeply influenced by these values. After qualifying and practicing at a Legal 500 firm in Bristol in the late nineties, I moved to the South East in 2001, where I spent nine years leading a Family Department in Hampshire. Now, at Blackfords LLP, I represent clients from our Woking and London offices, advising on a range of private family matters working on cases at all levels across the country, including complex children cases in the High Court.

For me, #YOTC25 is an opportunity to reflect on why I do what I do. It’s about recognising that families, no matter the circumstances, deserve support that prioritises their well-being. The Code of Practice isn’t just a set of guidelines—it’s a framework for ensuring that even during the most challenging times, families are treated with dignity and respect.

As we celebrate 25 years of the Code, I encourage my peers and colleagues to join in promoting the values of Resolution and to continue working together to create better outcomes for families everywhere. Together, we can make a difference.
