Lucinda Shand successfully represents Advanced Ambulance Care Assistant in South London Coroner’s Court

News8th January 2025

Lucinda Shand, alongside Ben Rowe of Crucible Chambers, successfully represented an Advanced Ambulance Care Assistant granted Interested Person (IP) status in an inquest examining the circumstances surrounding a patient’s death following transport to the hospital on 8th March 2021.

The inquest focused on determining how the patient sustained a leg fracture that ultimately contributed to their death. Lucinda’s client denied causing any injury during the patient’s transfer, emphasising that the process had been carried out with care and attention to the patient’s specific needs.

During the hearing, Counsel challenged evidence from a family member of the deceased, who suggested that complaints of pain during the transfer indicated the injury occurred during the journey. Counsel also highlighted extensive medical evidence, which did not support a conclusion that the fracture was sustained during the ambulance transfer.

After reviewing the evidence and submissions, the Coroner concluded there was no evidence to suggest the fracture was caused by any failure or omission on the part of the ambulance crew. No adverse findings were made against Lucinda’s client, marking a successful outcome in a sensitive and complex case.

Lucinda Shand is instructed to advise and represent individuals at all stages of an investigation and prosecution, leading exceptional defence teams and instructing some of the country’s leading Barristers.
