Nichola Coleman successfully represents client charged with Section 20 GBH

News27th January 2025

Nichola Coleman successfully represents client charged with Section 20 Grievous Bodily Harm (unlawful wounding) in a case heard at Bournemouth Crown Court

The allegation stemmed from a confrontation in which the client was accused of biting part of the complainant’s ear off during a physical altercation. The client consistently maintained that he acted in self-defence after the complainant sought him out, initiating a second confrontation. During the physical confrontation, both parties fell to the ground, with the complainant landing on top of the client. The latter sustained injuries, including the loss of a tooth and a split lip.

Critical CCTV footage captured the incident. After reviewing the evidence, representations were made to the Crown Prosecution Service, arguing that the client’s actions were consistent with self-defence. Following these representations, the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence against the client.

The court subsequently entered a formal verdict of not guilty and the client was released from custody.

Counsel instructed in the case was Mr. Aleks Lloyd of 12 College Place.

Nichola Coleman has extensive experience in preparing high profile and complex cases in the Crown Court, including Serious Assault, Serious fraud and all serious sexual offences.
